# Start and check a deployment

A deployment rebuilds the storefront of an environment and puts changes to apps, versions and configuration live. It is started in Cockpit under Deployments with Deploy; the status and build log show whether it worked.

### Prerequisites

- Saved changes to apps, versions or configuration

A **deployment** builds the storefront of an environment and puts the result live. It is needed whenever something that goes into the build has changed: adding or removing apps, app and platform versions, app settings, new markets or other project configuration. Saving in Cockpit only sets what the next deployment installs; the running site stays unchanged until then.

The overview under **Deployments** lists all deployments of the project, newest first. Each row shows the environment, time, who triggered it, status and URL. The active deployment of an environment carries the **Current** badge. The table updates in real time.

A build may run for at most 20 minutes; a working build finishes within a few minutes. A failed build is not retried automatically. A deployment only affects its own environment, so deploying stage changes nothing on main.

## Step by step

1. 1 ### Step 1: Open Deployments Open **Deployments** from the project sidebar in Cockpit.
2. 2 ### Step 2: Start the deployment Click **Deploy** to build the main environment. For another environment, select **Deploy** on its card under **Environments**.
3. 3 ### Step 3: Follow the status The **Status** column moves from preparing through waiting and running to success or error. Reloading the page is not necessary.
4. 4 ### Step 4: Open the details Click the environment name in the row. The detail view shows status, provider, duration, who triggered it and the URL.
5. 5 ### Step 5: Read the build log Expand the **Build log** section. New lines appear while the build runs; if loading fails, select **Retry**.
6. 6 ### Step 6: Check the result Open the new version via the deployment URL and check the pages that changed.

## Check the result

The new deployment is listed with status success and the Current badge, and the storefront shows the change. On error, the build log names the cause; after fixing it, start a new deployment.

## Frequently asked questions

When is a deployment needed?

When apps, app versions, app settings, the platform version, markets or other project configuration have changed. These values are built into the image and apply from the next deployment.

Why are canceled deployments not shown?

The filter hides the canceled status by default. Add canceled in the status filter to show them.

What does a stop after 20 minutes mean?

The build reached the time limit and is treated as stuck. The build log shows where it stopped.

Does deploying stage change the live site?

No. A deployment only affects its own environment. Other environments stay unchanged.

Every project starts with the main environment, which is the live storefront. Further environments such as stage or dev run beside it as separate copies with their own address, pages, apps and deployments until their work is promoted to main.

Every deployment has its own address, so two versions can be compared side by side. A rollback puts an already built earlier production deployment live again within seconds, without a new build.

Under Logs, Cockpit shows what the storefront of each environment on Laioutr Cloud writes, plus an access log. Each line's level comes from the console method that was called, and a trace finds all lines of one request.
