# Preview and publish changes in Studio

Studio saves changes as a draft and shows them instantly in the live preview. Publish in the top bar takes the saved state to the storefront through a deployment of the environment.

### Prerequisites

- Project with hosting set up
- At least one page in Studio

Last reviewed on October 15, 2026

The **preview** in the centre of Studio shows the real storefront with real data, exactly as it looks after publishing. In the top bar the team switches market, language and device mode; the phone and tablet preview can also be rotated to landscape. On dynamic pages such as a product detail page, the **Preview Data** field sets which product is on screen. That choice lasts for the session only and changes nothing for visitors.

Changes are stored as a draft in the project first. **Save** persists the state, **Publish** takes it to the storefront. Publishing starts a deployment of the environment, whose status is visible under **Deployments**. While a save is still in progress, Publish stays disabled so that no outdated state is shipped.

Entries in **Content Collections** have their own publishing and need no deployment. Studio shows unpublished entries through the **Show preview content** command.

## Step by step

1. 1 ### Step 1: Open Studio

Open **Studio** from the project sidebar and pick the page in the page switcher.
2. 2 ### Step 2: Choose market, language and device

Set market and language in the top bar and switch between desktop, tablet and phone. Check landscape for phone and tablet as well.
3. 3 ### Step 3: Set the preview record

On dynamic pages select the page and choose a product, article or recipe in the **Preview Data** field that shows the change well.
4. 4 ### Step 4: Check and save changes

Review sections and blocks in the preview, including every relevant language. Then choose **Save** and wait until saving has finished.
5. 5 ### Step 5: Publish

Choose **Publish** in the top bar. Studio starts a deployment of the current environment.
6. 6 ### Step 6: Follow the deployment

Open **Deployments** in Cockpit and watch the status of the new entry until it shows success.

## Check the result

Under **Deployments** the new deployment carries the **Current** badge and names the person who triggered it. The storefront shows the change on the domain of the selected market.

## Frequently asked questions

Why is Publish greyed out?

Publish stays disabled while changes are still being saved. Once saving has finished, the button is active again. Without deploy permission, a person with the right role has to publish.

Do Content Collection entries also have to be published through Studio?

No. Entries are published in the **Content** area and go live with the next page request, without a deployment.

Can unpublished content be viewed in Studio?

Yes. The **Show preview content** command uses the project's content preview token and shows drafts in the preview. If the frontend is too old, a tooltip names the required version.

Can a publish be undone?

Every publish creates a deployment. An earlier state can be restored through the deployments.

With the project's content preview token, the real storefront shows unpublished content instead of published content. The token is used by the open preview link in project settings, the Studio command Show preview content or the URL parameter preview\_token.

A deployment rebuilds the storefront of an environment and puts changes to apps, versions and configuration live. It is started in Cockpit under Deployments with Deploy; the status and build log show whether it worked.

Every deployment has its own address, so two versions can be compared side by side. A rollback puts an already built earlier production deployment live again within seconds, without a new build.

Studio is the visual editor in Cockpit: the team builds pages from sections and blocks, sees every change in a live preview of the real storefront and publishes when everything is right.
