# Global sections for header, footer and recurring content

A global section is created once and referenced on any number of pages. Changing its content changes it on every page that uses it, which is typical for headers, footers or a USP bar.

### Prerequisites

- The section exists on a page and is filled in

Some content appears on almost every page: the header with navigation, the footer, a notice banner or a bar with shipping benefits. So that this content does not have to be maintained on every page separately, there are **global sections**.

A global section belongs to the project environment, not to a single page. Pages only contain a **reference** to it. In the layers tree, this reference shows up as its own entry. When the content or blocks of the global section change, the change applies to every page that references it.

A local section, in contrast, lives only on its variant. If a page needs an exception, the reference is detached. That creates a local copy that can be edited independently. A reference can be moved like any section, including between header, body and footer.

AI agents can place existing global sections on pages through Laioutr MCP and edit the blocks inside them. Creating and detaching global sections remains a task in Studio.

## Step by step

1. 1 ### Step 1: Prepare the section

Create the section, for example the footer, on one page and fill it in completely.
2. 2 ### Step 2: Make it global

Select the section in the layers tree and turn it into a global section through its actions.
3. 3 ### Step 3: Insert it on other pages

On each further page, open **Add section** in the matching area and insert the global section as a reference.
4. 4 ### Step 4: Change once, update everywhere

Edit blocks or content of the global section on any page. The change appears on every page with this reference.
5. 5 ### Step 5: Create an exception

If one page needs a different version, detach the reference there and adjust the resulting local copy.
6. 6 ### Step 6: Save and publish

Save the changes with **Save** and go live with **Publish**.

## Check the result

Open a second page with the same reference: the change is visible there without any further step. In the layers tree, the section is marked as a reference.

## Frequently asked questions

Is a change to the global section live immediately?

No. The change shows up immediately in the preview of every page with the reference. Visitors see it only after **Publish**.

Can a single page have a different footer?

Yes. Either remove the reference and insert a different global section, or detach the reference and adjust the local copy.

Do global sections apply to all environments?

Global sections belong to one environment. Each environment, such as stage and production, has its own state.

How often is a global section used?

Laioutr counts the references per global section. Before larger changes, this number helps to judge the reach.
