# Essentials apps: core functions from Laioutr, installed as needed

Essentials apps are apps provided by Laioutr itself that bring core functions such as SEO, transactional email or legal building blocks. A project installs them in Cockpit as needed instead of hard-wiring these functions into the frontend.

### Prerequisites

- Project created in Cockpit

Last reviewed on October 15, 2026

In Laioutr every integration is an app. Besides third-party apps, for example for commerce, CMS or tracking, Laioutr provides apps of its own: the **essentials apps**. These apps bring core functions that almost every project needs, while staying modular. A project installs only what it actually uses.

### The essentials apps at a glance

- **SEO essentials**: robots.txt, sitemap, per-page meta data, Schema.org structured data and llms.txt for findability in AI search.
- **Mailer essentials**: sending transactional email, such as contact requests or confirmations, through an SMTP account or an email service.
- **Legal essentials**: building blocks for legally required content, including the revocation button under EU Directive 2023/2673.

Essentials apps appear in Cockpit under **Apps** like any other app and are installed there. The team then maintains configuration and content in Cockpit and Studio. The apps work together: Legal sends confirmations of receipt through the Mailer, and the sitemap respects the robots settings made in Studio.

## Step by step

1. 1 ### Step 1: Open Apps

Open **Apps** in the project sidebar in Cockpit.
2. 2 ### Step 2: Read the details

Select **Details** on the essentials app to see its description and documentation link.
3. 3 ### Step 3: Install

Select **Install** to add the app to the project. The card then shows **Installed**.

## Frequently asked questions

Why are core functions built as apps instead of being built in?

Apps keep functions decoupled, configurable and replaceable. A project only carries the functions it uses, and each app can evolve independently of the frontend.

How do essentials apps differ from add-ons?

Essentials apps bring basic functions such as SEO, email sending and legal building blocks. Add-ons such as AI Search & Discovery and group products such as Distributr are booked separately.

Can an essentials app be combined with third-party services?

Yes. The Mailer, for example, sends through any SMTP account or through services such as SendGrid, Amazon SES or Mailgun. The app remains the single interface within the project.
