# Enter credentials and test the connection
App credentials are entered per environment under Configuration, checked with Test connection and stored with Save settings. They take effect with the next deployment.

Each app declares which settings it needs: which shop, which search account, which tracking property and with which credentials. Cockpit shows these as a form under **Configuration** in the environment menu, grouped by publisher. The form header names publisher, package and installed version; each section reports **Complete** or how many settings are missing.
Settings belong to exactly one environment. A token saved on stage leaves main untouched. Tokens, keys and passwords are secrets: Cockpit stores them encrypted and never shows them in full again, for long values only the last four characters.
**Test connection** sends a single read-only request to the app service and reports whether it worked or what is missing. Saving does not start a deployment: the running storefront keeps its previous values until the next build.
## Step by step
1. 1 ### Step 1: Open Configuration
Unfold **Configuration** in the environment menu. An orange dot next to an app marks an empty required setting.
2. 2 ### Step 2: Select the app
Open the app and check package and version in the header. **Configure** in **Package Management** leads to the same form.
3. 3 ### Step 3: Enter the values
Fill in the fields with values from the system admin. For a stored secret, leave the field empty unless it should be replaced.
4. 4 ### Step 4: Test the connection
Select **Test connection** before saving. The result reports success or the cause, such as missing values, no answer or refused credentials.
5. 5 ### Step 5: Save
Select **Save settings**. If a required setting is empty, Cockpit names it and does not save.
6. 6 ### Step 6: Deploy
Start a deployment of the environment so the storefront picks up the new values.
## Check the result
All sections of the app show **Complete**, no orange dot remains, the connection test reports success, and after the deployment the storefront shows data from the system.
## Frequently asked questions
Do the values apply to all environments?
No, every environment has its own values. When an environment is copied into another with **App settings** ticked, the values travel along, secrets included. A new environment starts with its source settings, including the connection to the live shop.
How is a secret replaced?
Type the new value and save. An empty field keeps the stored value. Optional secrets can be removed with **Remove**; **Keep** undoes that before saving.
What does the Settings not released badge mean?
The installed app version declares settings Cockpit has not received yet. The publisher releases that version again; for Laioutr apps the form arrives with the next catalogue sync.
Does the test change anything in the connected system?
No. The test sends a read-only request and changes nothing in the service or in Cockpit.
