# Create the first project

In the organisation settings, use Create project in the Projects tab, choose a starting point and open the project; markets, apps and Studio follow.

### Prerequisites

- An existing organisation
- A project name, for example the brand name

Last reviewed on October 15, 2026

A project is one storefront or website inside the organisation, typically a brand or a digital offering. Each project has its own Studio, apps, markets, languages, redirects and deployments.

Creating a project automatically creates the environment **main**, the future live site. A Blueprint serves as the starting point, a pre-composed starter site that is then edited in Studio. Hosting runs on Laioutr Cloud by default.

Three things follow: set up languages and markets, install apps and test the connection to the shop or content system, then build pages in Studio. A plan is only needed for going live on a custom domain; until then the project runs on Starter.

## Step by step

1. 1 ### Step 1: Open the project list

Open **Settings** in the organisation and select the **Projects** tab.
2. 2 ### Step 2: Create the project

Click **Create project** and enter a project name. The name produces the project slug that appears in the project address in Cockpit.
3. 3 ### Step 3: Choose a starting point

Choose a Blueprint that fits the industry and business model. Its pages are then ready for editing in Studio.
4. 4 ### Step 4: Confirm hosting

Keep Laioutr Cloud as hosting unless the project runs on its own hosting. The environment **main** is created automatically.
5. 5 ### Step 5: Open the project

Click the new project in the list. The project sidebar now shows **Studio**, **Apps**, **Markets**, **Translations** and **Deployments**.
6. 6 ### Step 6: Continue with the next steps

Add the languages under **Translations**, the first market under **Markets**, and install the shop or content system under **Apps**.

## Check the result

The project is listed in the **Projects** tab with name and slug, and **Environments** shows the environment **main**. Studio opens the pages of the chosen Blueprint.

## Frequently asked questions

How many projects can an organisation create?

The number of projects is not a plan feature. Projects without an assigned licence run on Starter; to go live on a custom domain, a licence is assigned to the project.

When does a second project make sense, and when a second market?

Same brand with regional differences in language, currency and content: one project with several markets. Different brands, designs or teams: separate projects.

Can a project be deleted again?

Yes. In the **Projects** tab, choose **Delete** in the row menu and confirm with the project name. Deletion is permanent and removes all environments.

A market bundles name, currency, flag and the domains visitors use to reach a storefront. Markets are created in the project under Markets, and each domain gets a language from Translations.

Studio is the visual editor in Cockpit: the team builds pages from sections and blocks, sees every change in a live preview of the real storefront and publishes when everything is right.

The organisation buys licences and assigns them to individual projects in Cockpit, much like seats in a team tool. Only the assignment unlocks the plan's features in the project; projects without a licence run on Starter.
