# Create pages and variants from page types

Every page in Studio is based on a page type such as Home, Product Detail or Landing Page. When adding a page, the team picks the type, checks name and URL path, and adds further variants of the same page when needed.

### Prerequisites

- Studio is open
- Apps that provide the required page types are installed

Three terms carry the page structure in Laioutr:

- **Page type**: comes from an app and defines the URL shape, the data it needs and its group in Studio, for example Home, Product Listing, Product Detail Page, Content Page or Landing Page.
- **Page**: one concrete storefront URL based on a page type.
- **Variant**: one version of a page. It holds its own tree of sections, the SEO fields and rules. Every page has at least one variant.

Page types are **static** or **dynamic**. For static types such as Landing Page or Content Page, the team creates as many pages as needed, each with its own path. A dynamic type such as Product Detail Page usually exists once per project: one page with the path `/products/:slug+` renders every product, and the data comes from the connected shop through Orchestr.

When a page is added, Studio suggests a default path and checks that required parameters such as `:slug` are included. Paths can be translated per language, and pages can be limited to specific markets.

## Step by step

1. 1 ### Step 1: Add a page

Open the page selector in the Studio top bar and choose **Add page**.
2. 2 ### Step 2: Choose a page type

Choose the page type from the matching group, for example **Shop** or **General**. Static types suit campaigns and content, dynamic types suit product and category pages.
3. 3 ### Step 3: Set name and path

Enter a name and check the suggested **URL path**. Required parameters such as `:slug` must stay in the path, otherwise Studio rejects it.
4. 4 ### Step 4: Translate the path and limit markets

If needed, use the translate button next to the path field to adapt the path per language. In the page properties, the page can be limited to specific markets.
5. 5 ### Step 5: Add a variant

Duplicate the existing variant of the page. The copy takes over sections and SEO fields and gets its own data queries.
6. 6 ### Step 6: Name the variant and save

Give the variant a clear name, adjust its sections and save with **Save**.

## Check the result

The new page appears in the page selector and loads in the preview under its path. For a dynamic page, the **Preview Data** field in the page properties shows a concrete product or entry.

## Frequently asked questions

Why does a second product detail page make no sense?

Product Detail Page is a dynamic type. A single page renders every product through the path parameter. For a different presentation, add another variant.

How does a new page type get into Studio?

Developers define page types in an app. Once the app is installed and deployed, the type appears automatically in its group when adding a page.

Why is a changed path not accepted?

The page type requires parameters. If, for example, `:slug` is missing from a product listing path, Studio rejects it so no broken routes are created.

What is the difference between a page and a variant?

The page stands for the URL. The variant is one concrete version of that page with its own sections, SEO fields and rules, for example for a campaign.

Sections are the large areas of a page in header, body or footer, and blocks are content units inside a section's slots. Both are added and arranged in the layers tree and edited in the properties panel.

For a campaign, the team adds another variant of an existing page, builds the campaign content there and controls through rules and publishing when and where the variant applies. The previous version stays untouched.

A landing page is created in Studio as a Landing Page type page with its own path and is assembled from installed sections: hero, content, a product slider with shop data, and header and footer as global sections.
