# Connect Laioutr MCP to an AI assistant

Laioutr MCP connects Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or another MCP client to Laioutr projects via OAuth. Once Laioutr has enabled it, signing in with the Laioutr account is enough; no API key is needed.

### Prerequisites

- Laioutr MCP enabled for the organisation
- Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or another MCP client
- Reachable project frontend

**Laioutr MCP** is a Model Context Protocol server that opens Laioutr projects to AI assistants. A connected assistant reads pages and variants, discovers the installed sections and blocks, reads schemas and style tokens and edits content in the live Studio document. It uses the same interfaces as Cockpit and Studio.

Sign-in uses OAuth with the user's own Laioutr account. The assistant sees exactly the projects this account sees in Cockpit. Laioutr enables the server per organisation; after that, the organisation's **API Keys** page shows a **Laioutr MCP** card with the server URL.

Do not mix them up: the **Documentation MCP** at docs.laioutr.com/mcp answers questions from the documentation and has no access to projects. For working on content, Laioutr MCP is the right server.

## Step by step

1. 1 ### Step 1: Request activation

Ask Laioutr to enable Laioutr MCP for the organisation and give the organisation name or slug.
2. 2 ### Step 2: Connect Claude or ChatGPT

In Claude, open the Laioutr connector in the connector directory; in ChatGPT, open the Laioutr plugin. Follow the connection flow.
3. 3 ### Step 3: Connect Cursor or another client

Open the organisation's **API Keys** page in Cockpit, copy the server URL from the **Laioutr MCP** card and add it as a remote MCP server in the client.
4. 4 ### Step 4: Sign in and approve

On first use, Laioutr opens. Sign in with the account whose project access the assistant should use, review the OAuth request and approve it.
5. 5 ### Step 5: Test the connection

Ask the assistant: `List the Laioutr projects I can access.` The answer lists the account's projects.
6. 6 ### Step 6: Make a first small change

Request one clearly scoped change, such as a homepage heading in two languages, and check the result in Studio before anyone publishes.

## Check the result

The assistant lists the same projects the account sees in Cockpit. If Studio is open at the same time, the assistant appears there as the participant **AI Agent** and its changes are visible immediately.

## Frequently asked questions

What is the difference from the Documentation MCP?

The Documentation MCP is public and only serves content from the Laioutr documentation. Laioutr MCP is authenticated, works with the signed-in account's projects and can edit Studio content.

Is an API key required?

No. Laioutr MCP uses OAuth with the user account. No organisation API key has to be created or pasted.

Cockpit reports MCP\_NOT\_ENABLED. What now?

Laioutr has not enabled the server for this organisation yet. Contact Laioutr with the organisation name or slug.

The assistant cannot find a project. Why?

Laioutr MCP only shows projects the signed-in account can access. Check in Cockpit with the same account that the project appears, and make sure the browser is not signed in with a different account.

Agents work through Laioutr MCP in the same Studio document as the team, with the rights of the signed-in account. Work stays safe with small, clear requests, a review in Studio and the rule that a person always publishes.

API keys are created in the organisation settings under API keys. An organisation key authenticates the CLI and CI/CD, a restricted key gives an external application access to one project's media only.

Studio is the visual editor in Cockpit: the team builds pages from sections and blocks, sees every change in a live preview of the real storefront and publishes when everything is right.
