# Account settings: profile, language and security

Under Account in Cockpit, the interface language, profile details and colour mode are set, and the email address and password are changed. These settings apply to the personal account, not to a project.

Account settings belong to the person and apply across all organisations and projects. They are found in the sidebar under **Account**.

### Preferences

- **Language**: the language of the Cockpit interface. Menus, dialogs and copy then use this language where translations exist. Storefront languages are managed separately in the project under Translations.
- **Profile information**: first and last name, shown in Cockpit and in Studio when working together.
- **Color mode**: Light, Dark or System.

### Security

**Security** is where the sign-in email and password are changed. A new email address only takes effect once the link in the confirmation email sent to the new address is opened. The password needs at least 8 characters.

Account deletion is also requested there. After the stated period, sign-in is no longer possible and the data is permanently removed. Ownership of an organisation should be handed to another person first.

## Step by step

1. 1 ### Step 1: Open preferences

   Open **Account** and then **Preferences** in the sidebar.
2. 2 ### Step 2: Choose a language

   Select the interface language in the **Language** section.
3. 3 ### Step 3: Update the profile

   Enter first and last name under **Profile information** and save.
4. 4 ### Step 4: Choose a colour mode

   Pick **Light**, **Dark** or **System** under **Color mode**.
5. 5 ### Step 5: Change the email

   Under **Account** and **Security**, enter the new address and click **Update email**. Then open the link in the confirmation email sent to the new address.
6. 6 ### Step 6: Change the password

   Under **Change Password**, enter the new password twice and click **Update Password**.

## Check the result

The interface switches to the chosen language and colour mode right away. After a password change, Cockpit shows a confirmation; a new email address applies once the confirmation link has been opened.

## Frequently asked questions

Does the account language change the storefront language?

No. The account language only affects the Cockpit interface. Storefront languages are set up in the project under Translations and Markets.

Why is the new email address not active yet?

The change only takes effect once the link in the confirmation email to the new address is opened. Check the spam folder as well.

What happens when the account is deleted?

After the stated period, sign-in is no longer possible and the data is removed permanently. This cannot be undone. Transfer organisation ownership beforehand.
