# SEO and GEO essentials: search engines, AI search and redirects

The SEO essentials app bundles what search engines and AI search need from a Laioutr storefront: robots.txt, sitemap, per-page meta data, Schema.org and llms.txt. Redirects and URL history in Cockpit keep old addresses reachable.

Last reviewed on October 15, 2026

Provides robots.txt, sitemap, per-page meta data, a Schema.org graph with the organisation, OG images, a link checker and the automatically managed llms.txt. Together with redirects and URL history in Cockpit, the app protects rankings and findability in AI search.

**SEO essentials** is the essentials app for findability. It builds on the Nuxt SEO modules and is connected to Studio. It includes:

- **robots.txt** and per-page robots settings; staging environments are automatically kept out of the index
- **Sitemap** at /sitemap.xml, without noindex pages
- **Meta title, description and robots** per page variant in Studio
- **Schema.org** with WebSite, WebPage and Organization, adjustable per market
- **OG images** for share previews and a link checker

### GEO: findability in AI search

**AI Search & LLM Ready** makes sure AI systems find and cite content. For this, Laioutr manages the **llms.txt** automatically. This is not the AI Search & Discovery add-on, which runs the search on the site itself.

### Redirects and URL history

Under **Redirects** in Cockpit, the team maintains redirects one by one or by CSV. URL history prevents a changed page path from breaking existing links and rankings.

## Step by step

1. 1 ### Step 1: Check the app

Check under **Apps** in Cockpit whether **SEO essentials** is installed; otherwise select **Install**.
2. 2 ### Step 2: Maintain page SEO

Select a page in Studio and set meta title, meta description and robots in the **SEO** area of the properties panel.
3. 3 ### Step 3: Add the organisation

Enter company name, logo, address and profiles under `structuredData.organization` in the app configuration. Maintain per-market differences under `markets`.
4. 4 ### Step 4: Create redirects

Open **Redirects** in Cockpit and point old paths to new targets, using **Import CSV** for large lists.
5. 5 ### Step 5: Publish

Publish the changes in Studio and run a deployment so that redirects and configuration go live.

## Check the result

On the live domain, open /robots.txt, /sitemap.xml and /llms.txt, check title, description and the JSON-LD in the page source, and test an old URL that should redirect to its new address.

## Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between AI Search & LLM Ready and AI Search & Discovery?

AI Search & LLM Ready makes content findable for AI search, among other things through the automatically managed llms.txt. AI Search & Discovery is an add-on for product search on the site itself.

Do search engines index staging environments?

No. Non-production environments are excluded from indexing automatically.

What happens when a page path is changed in Studio?

URL history keeps the old address reachable so that backlinks and rankings are not lost. Redirects can also be checked and adjusted under Redirects.

Before going live, every important page needs a meta title, a description and the right robots value, the organisation belongs in the structured data, and old URLs redirect to new ones. The team then checks robots.txt, sitemap and rich results on the live domain.

Redirects are maintained per project environment under Redirects in Cockpit, one by one or by CSV import. Permanent rules answer with 301, temporary ones with 302, and they apply after the next deployment.

robots.txt controls what crawlers may visit, the sitemap lists every indexable page, and llms.txt points AI systems to the content. All three files sit at the root of the domain and follow the robots settings from Studio.
- [Structured data with Schema.org](https://academy.laioutr.com/en/artikel/structured-data-schema-org)6 min

Every Laioutr page carries exactly one Schema.org graph as JSON-LD, with no extra module. The SEO app provides website, page and organisation, and sections add breadcrumbs, FAQ, products and product lists.

Laioutr sets canonical, hreflang alternates, x-default, og:locale and the lang attribute on every page automatically. They are based on the languages under Translations, the domains under Markets and the translated page paths in Studio.
